Duncan Cran School is a safe, positive, respectful learning environment where students and staff are confident, academically successful, respectful, responsible, emotionally secure and safe.The school promotes the values expressed in BC Human Rights code respecting the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law. The school will treat seriously, behaviour or communication that discriminates based on race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, gender, sexual orientation or age.<\/p>\n
The School Based Team’s role is to support students, teachers, and parents by helping develop plans for students who are chronically having difficulty following the classroom and school expectations. To provide a structured problem-solving process that will ensure effective intervention practices are implemented for each student or issue brought to the team.<\/p>\n
Restrictions on Student Use of Personal Internet-Connected Devices<\/strong><\/p>\n Duncan Cran Elementary School expects a learning environment with limited distractions and the responsible use of digital technology.\u00a0 It recognizes the research that shows that frequent cellphone interruptions in the classroom, social media platforms with addictive algorithms and an increasing level of cyberbullying and online exploitation of young people, are having a negative impact on instruction, learning, and student mental health.<\/p>\n Definition<\/p>\n \u201cPersonal Internet-Connected Devices\u201d include, but are not limited to, cell phones, tablet computers, smartwatches, and portable video game systems.<\/p>\n Guidelines\/Principles:<\/p>\n Students will have access to school\/district-owned technology at an age-appropriate level that supports learning and the development of digital technology skills and digital citizenship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n As outlined in an Individual Education Plan (IEP),\u00a0 Learning Support Plan (LSP), or health plan, schools will exempt specific students from restrictions on the use of personal internet-connected devices when they are needed for full inclusion in a specific learning activity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n At the elementary school level, the use of and access to personal internet-connected devices will not be permitted at any time during the school day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The security and storage of personal internet-connected devices is the sole responsibility of the owner\/user.\u00a0 The District assumes no responsibility for the safety, security, loss, repair or replacement of such devices.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n The Code of Conduct is taught to all students.\u00a0 Throughout the year, the Code of Conduct is reviewed at staff meetings and targeted behaviours are re-taught to the students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Duncan Cran School is a safe, positive, respectful learning environment where students and staff are confident, academically successful, respectful, responsible, emotionally secure and safe.The school promotes the values expressed in BC Human Rights code respecting the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"parent":2,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"yoast_head":"\n\n
