October 10, 2013:

 Terry Fox

A great afternoon was had by all for the Terry Fox run. All students ran, skipped or walked for our Terry Fox Run. As promised, if the school raised at least $1000.00, the principal would wear a dress at our Monday morning assembly. I am pleased to say that the Duncan Cran School community raised $1475 dollars, with our top two fund raising students, Amanda Shortman and Alyssa Comstock raising $600 between the two girls! Way to go!!!

Students Dress for Weather

With winter at our heals and temperatures already close to 0 degrees in the morning, we are encouraging parents to remind their child(ren) to dress for cold weather. Unless it is raining or -15 degrees Celsius, students will be outside in the mornings, before the 8:45 bell, at recess and at lunch. Thanks for your support with this.

Student Safety & Parking:

Student safety and Parking is a huge concern here at the school. Many people speed through our school zone much faster than the 30km/hr. We are very worried about student safety. Also, some people park right on the cross walks, which is illegal. Please ensure that you are not doing this. Finally, many of our staff have to park on the street because the staff parking lot is full of parents dropping off students or picking them up. If you live close to the school, please consider walking your child to school as it is good for you, good for the environment and gives you more bonding time with your child. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Strong Start and Preschool:

There are 2 options available for a preschool experience at Duncan Cran:

1. Strong Start – Free drop in program, parents or care givers must stay. A birth certificate is required and times are Monday-Friday 8:30-11:30am. For ages 0-4.

2. We also have a licensed preschool on Monday, Wednesday, & Thursdays from 12:30-3:15pm. 3 spots are still available. Subsidies are available for the preschool.

Thanksgiving Holiday

Monday, October 14th is Thanksgiving, and there is no school on that day!

Halloween Celebration:

Every year we have a Halloween celebration, typically regular classes in the morning; followed by fun activities in the afternoon. Right after lunch everyone goes to the gym for a Halloween costume parade, then we do 2 separate dances, one for the primary students; followed by a dance for intermediate students. When not in the dance in the afternoon, students will do fun activities in their classrooms.

Science Fair Launch Party

Open to all parents, teachers and students. The party will be held on Thursday, November 14th, from 7:00-8:30pm at the District Development Center (School Board Office, 10112 105th Ave., FSJ). This is an opportunity to network with the Science Fair Committee and Student Alumni on the benefits and rewards of Science Fair participation.

Important Dates:

  • Thank Giving – October 14th – No school for students
